Set Apart

Set Apart

פָּלָה

palah

to be distinct, marked out, be separated, be distinguished, to be wonderful, to make separate, to set apart

Although it is March, I have reasons for this late start on choosing a word to walk into and by for this year.  But those reasons are not important because with God, there is no time that matters when it comes to following Him as long as I am doing just that.  So here I am, LORD.  Please, take me as I am and lead me along the path of Your will for my life.  Amen.

My word(s) for pondering, for desiring to live by in 2013, and for always, are “set apart”.  God sets us apart when we come to know Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, set apart  from the world to live and to love as He lived and loved.   “O righteous Father, although the world has not known You, yet I have known You; and these have known that You sent Me; and I have made Your name known to them, and will make it known, so that the love with which You loved Me may be in them, and I in them.”  John 17:25-26  Jesus prayed this for me.

We are called “….to step to the music which he hears, however measured, or far away.” (Henry David Thoreau)  There is a distinction, a separation from the world that I am called to be, that beat of the different drummer.  I have given them Your word; and the world has hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. I do not ask You to take them out of the world, but to keep them from the evil one. They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. Sanctify them in the truth; Your word is truth. As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world. For their sakes I sanctify Myself, that they themselves also may be sanctified in truth.”  John 17:14-19

john17_17He calls us to be holy as He is holy…because it is written, “YOU SHALL BE HOLY, FOR I AM HOLY.” (1 Peter 1:16, Leviticus 11:44,45)  The word holy, קָדַשׁ , qadash, in Hebrew, meansto consecrate, sanctify, prepare, dedicate, be hallowed, be sanctified, be separate,” even tabooed.  To be so different from this world in which we live, I am called.

But know that the LORD has set apart the godly man for Himself; The LORD hears when I call to Him.  Psalm 4:3

I am not to conform to the worldly standards set before me in my daily life.  And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.  Romans 12:2

WOW!  This is not easy to even realize, let alone live every day, every moment.  And I must know that I won’t.  I will fail, but I want to do my best to live the life to which I have been called as a Christ follower.

I have been sanctified, set apart, raised with Christ in His Resurrection as a new woman, and am to always look upward, fix my eyes on Jesus.  Therefore if you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.  Colossians 3:1

There is much to ponder here, much to live.  I am to pick up my cross daily if I am to remain “set apart” for God.  ‘Tis a HUGE assignment, but I want to be set apart for the One True God. And He was saying to them all, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross daily and follow Me.”  Luke 9:23

LORD, I need You to guide me, direct my paths every moment of every day.  I desire to be obedient to You and only You.  Be my Light, Lord.  Be my Light.  Amen.
