My days are swifter than a weaver’s shuttle
and come to their end without hope. Job 7:6
How easily our days do speed by when we go about tasks without thought as to what we are doing or why, when we have so much on our plate that we miss the day and suddenly it is gone or when we spend time doing things that are of no importance to God’s economy or wasting away the time as if we have forever to live. The list can go on and on. We all know just what pieces of our lives go by “swifter than a weaver’s shuttle.” Zip…zip…zip. On and on the shuttle goes back and forth weaving the tapestry. The shuttle knows not what it is doing for it is just a ‘thing.’ We often spend our days like this ‘thing’ and know not where the day has gone. The human, god-child has not a clue what happened with this day or the next.
And when we look back, we see little or no accomplishment for the day nor for God’s Kingdom. This day looks like it has no ‘hope’ to count upon when we close our eyes on that pillow.
Let us open our eyes every morning and see that God has brought the sun up and has begun the day for us with His beauty. Let us take each step forward with Him on our hearts and mind. Yes, we have those ‘things’ we must do and be in this world, but let us do them according to the ways of our God. Let us be the sweet fragrance to God in all ways and as He desires.
LORD, may we see Your beauty in each person we encounter this day. May we do the mundane tasks as though they are being done for You. May we greet the day refreshed and ready to be in Your hands, no matter what we must do or be that particular day. May we walk in Your Presence. In the Name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
