A Child’s Chaos

My sister had had her granddaughter for part of a day before she called.  The joy in her voice was delightful, filled with memories of the day.  After wishing me a happy birthday, she proceeded to tell me of her day with her granddaughter, her PL.  She spoke of the “projects” that she, her husband and PL (3-1/2 years old) had spent much of the day doing together: planting seeds in the newly tilled garden, making a pie, cooking meatballs, and so much more…all squeezed into a few hours.

As she spoke about these “projects,” she also spoke about the “chaos” that enveloped them for those few hours and how wonderful it was to be in the midst of “a child’s chaos.”

I love that thought and I love it that she and her husband find such joy in the midst of “a child’s chaos.”

Merriam-Webster defines chaos as:

  • complete confusion and disorder : a state in which behavior and events are not controlled by anything
  • the state of the universe before there was any order and before stars and planets were formed

The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.  Genesis 1:2

As I listened to my sister, I not only heard joy and delight in this child’s busy-ness and desire to be with her grandparents, but I heard that in the midst of what looks to be a mess, things come to completion.  The “chaos” comes to order.  The delight grows with the sense of accomplishment with a special one who is loved very much.  I also heard, through my sister’s words, that love grew even more than it was while in the process of going from chaos to order.

Did not God’s love for His creation grow as He turned the formless void and darkness into something He called “good” and “very good.”

And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good.  Genesis 1:31a

Father, You have made the little children precious in Your sight.  They come with innocence and openness.  As I have grown older, I (and many others) lose those childlike qualities.  Life experiences can cause that too.  Children can teach me trust and unconditional love.  They show me kindness and tender caring.  They remind me that I have unexpressed creativity within, needing to be freed.  They also remind me that I was a child once and still have some of her in there who would love to come out and play.  Thank You, Lord, for these little ones.  May we know Your love through them as they interact in our lives.  I have been blessed by this child who lives well over a thousand miles away, yet I sense she is right here with me at times through You, through my sister, and my nephew.  Thank You for my sister too, Father.  She (and her husband) are so in love with their little PL.  I am so glad…for I gain from that love too.  I pray in the Name of Your Son.  Amen.

P.S.  My sister has one living son who married in his late thirties and PL is the first and only grandchild.  Plus the other two of us in this family are the aunts of this one nephew.  We never had children, making PL all the more special for all of us.

Secret

4465d8793af9daf6538e0067d5192d69

The secret of the LORD is for those who fear Him,
And He will make them know His covenant.  Psalm 25:14

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“For the Lord GOD does nothing
without revealing his secret
to his servants the prophets.”  Amos 3:7
סוֹד
cowd
a session, i.e. company of persons (in close deliberation);
by implication, intimacy, consultation, a secret:—assembly, consel, inward, secret (counsel)
God’s secrets are His counsel to us as we walk with Him in this life.  Many verses with this same Hebrew word read assembly or counsel.  It was often in the setting of many people.  The LORD meets with His people in the quiet of hearts to reveal His covenant, His guidance, His love.
For who has stood in the counsel of the LORD,
And has perceived and heard His word?
Who has marked His word and heard it?  Jeremiah 23:18
But if they had stood in My counsel,
And had caused My people to hear My words,
Then they would have turned them from their evil way
And from the evil of their doings.  Jeremiah 23:22
Another Hebrew word for secret:
סֵתֶר
cether
a cover (in a good or a bad, a literal or a figurative sense):—backbiting, covering, covert, disguise(-th), hiding place, privily, protection, secret(-ly, place)
 ‘Cursed is he who strikes his neighbor in secret.’ And all the people shall say, ‘Amen.’  Deuteronomy 27:24
‘Clouds are a hiding place for Him, so that He cannot see;
And He walks on the vault of heaven.’  Job 22:14
He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High
Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.  Psalm 91:1
This secret often seems to be an actual secret place, a hiding place, although it can also be something done behind another’s back.
psalm 119-11-2
A third Hebrew word meaning secret:
צָפַן
tsaphan
to hide (by covering over); by implication, to hoard or reserve; figuratively to deny; specifically (favorably) to protect, (unfavorably) to lurk:—esteem, hide(-den one, self), lay up, lurk (be set) privily, (keep) secret(-ly, place)
And the woman conceived, and bare a son: and when she saw him that he was a goodly child, she hid him three months.  And when she could not longer hide him, she took for him an ark of bulrushes, and daubed it with slime and with pitch, and put the child therein; and she laid it in the flags by the river’s brink.  Exodus 2:2-3
My son, keep my words
And treasure my commandments within you.  Proverbs 7:1
Oh, how great is Your goodness,
Which You have laid up for those who fear You,
Which You have prepared for those who trust in You
In the presence of the sons of men!  Psalm 31:19
I have stored up your word in my heart,
that I might not sin against you.  Psalm 119:11
There are even more meanings to the English word, secret, in the Bible than I have placed here.  The New Testament has several as well.  But these will be enough for now.  Some of these definitions are filled with God’s protection and glow.  Others are filled with worldly ways of men.  Yet others have the godly ways of men.  In reading this six-letter word, we need to be attentive to God’s meaning.
Father God, as we read Your Word, please guide us as to Your meaning so that we may glean just what You mean in Your beautiful Word.  I want to dwell in Your secret place, under Your shadow, in Your Shelter, under Your wing and feel secure by being in Your Presence.  I want to sense this every moment of every day, Father.  I trust You, hope in You, and love You.  Praying in the Name of Your Son, Jesus.  Amen.
He Who Is Sovereign
1timothy6-15-161
I charge you in the presence of God, who gives life to all things, and of Christ Jesus, who in his testimony before Pontius Pilate made the good confession, to keep the commandment unstained and free from reproach until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ, which he will display at the proper time—he who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone has immortality, who dwells in unapproachable light, whom no one has ever seen or can see. To him be honor and eternal dominion. Amen.  1 Timothy 6:13-16
δυνάστης
dynástēs, (doo-nas’-tace)
a ruler or officer:—of great authority, mighty, potentate
sovereign
From Matthew Henry’s Commentary:
Concerning Christ and God the Father the apostle here speaks great things.
  • (1.) That God is the only Potentate; the powers of earthly princes are all derived from him, and depend upon him. The powers that exist are ordained of God, Rom. 13:1. He is the only Potentate that is absolute and sovereign, and perfectly independent.
  • (2.) He is the blessed and the only Potentate, infinitely happy, and nothing can in the least impair his happiness.
  • (3.) He is King of kings, and Lord of lords. All the kings of the earth derive their power from him; he gave them their crowns, they hold them under him, and he has a sovereign dominion over them. This is Christ’s title (Rev. 19:16), upon his vesture and his thigh; for he has a name higher than the kings of the earth.
  • (4.) He only has immortality. He only is immortal in himself, and has immortality as he is the fountain of it, for the immortality of angels and spirits derived from him.
  • (5.) He dwells in inaccessible light, light which no man can approach unto: no man can get to heaven but those whom he is pleased to bring thither, and admit into his kingdom.
  • (6.) He is invisible: Whom no man hath seen, nor can see. It is impossible that mortal eyes should bear the brightness of the divine glory. No man can see God and live.
Holy God, You are all that I ever need or want.  Guide my steps so that I walk within Your will for my life.  May we, K and I, continue to walk in step together under Your guidance.  We both want to be in You will.  We do not know just what that is right now, but we want to be there.  As we are quiet before You, Father God, Your Sovereign ways are the only ones we want to know.  May our lives represent You in all we are and all we do.  We pray to know Your will, yet if we are walking with You, one step at a time, maybe we do not need to know what the whole picture looks like.  Your ways are holy and right, LORD.  May they be ours.  We love You, Father.  I pray in the Name of Jesus.  Amen.
Sovereign God Reigns
And He has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, and has determined their preappointed times and the boundaries of their dwellings, so that they should seek the Lord, in the hope that they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us; for in Him we live and move and have our being, as also some of your own poets have said, ‘For we are also His offspring.’  Acts 17:26-28
Father, You know all and are all.  You have everything in Your hands.  As life changes and this body ages, You know the challenges that we face.  You know what we can handle and what we cannot.  I pray that we quiet our selves, allowing the Holy Spirit to tell us, in Your still, small voice, just what we need so that we are walking in Your will.  We want to know.  May our ways in this world calm and quiet so that Your ways will be all we need and want.  Thank You, Father, for loving us and being with us as we traveled and spent time with each other, with friends, explored new places, and were with You.
You are the Sovereign God, reigning in my heart and soul.  I lift our concerns and families to You.  In the Name of Jesus, I rest and pray.  Amen.
