More Than Enough

here's my heart
No matter what version of the Bible you are reading, the word “commit” and “committed” appear over and over again.

“You shall not commit adultery.”  Exodus 20:14

And the rest shall hear and fear, and shall never again commit any such evil among you.  Deuteronomy 19:20

Almost every time, the word is in regard to committing a sin, warnings about committing a sin, or the consequences of committing a sin.

So this is my 2016 word.

Commit

Commit300IMG_1519

I do not want to commit any sin against God.  I am also human and, most likely, will commit some thing(s) against Him.  I am sorry before I even do such as I do not want that for myself nor to do such against the God I love with all of my heart.

When I chose “commit” as my word, I included those meanings listed above, but, actually, I am focusing on committing my life, my walk, my heart, my all to God, desiring His orchestration of me…all of me!

Commit your way to the LORD;
trust in Him, and He will act.  Psalm 37:5

I do not want to be half-hearted and need extra proof from Jesus to commit my life, my days, my moments to Him.

Philip said to Him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us.”  Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and you still do not know Me, Philip?   Whoever has seen Me has seen the Father.  How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?  Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me?  The words that I say to you I do not speak on My own authority, but the Father Who dwells in Me does His works.  Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me, or else believe on account of the works themselves.  John 14:8-11

I believe, LORD.  Please help my unbelief.

“Offer to God a sacrifice of thanksgiving,

and perform your vows to the Most High,

and call upon Me in the day of trouble;

I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me.”  Psalm 50:14-15

“The one who offers thanksgiving as his sacrifice glorifies Me;

to one who orders his way rightly.

I will show the salvation of God!”  Psalm 50:23

In thanksgiving, I commit myself to You because of all the You have done for me.  I praise You, Abba Father, for in Your sacrifice of Your Son, I am now saved from death, having eternal life with You.  I give You all the glory because You are All…ALL!  Teach me to walk in Your ways and Your way alone.  I am so in love with You.  I am committed to You because You are truly Enough.  Uphold me when I stumble; lift me when I fall.  Your arms are strong enough and wide enough for me.   Your touch is tender enough for me.  Your love is true enough for me.  You are enough, Father.  Enough.  In the Name that is Enough, I pray.  Amen.

Silence

winter-20248_960_720

For God alone my soul waits in silence;…  Psalm 62:1a

Silence
Still
Quiet

Falling Snow

Mourning Doves’ cooing

Hush
Peace

Recalling my mother’s delight

Stillness, silence allows thoughts to surface
to flow
love felt
peace envelop
joy encircle

The gifts of life have a chance to permeate
to exude

Silence often begins with seeing and hearing the world around me

When the Lamb opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour.  Revelation 8:1

Quietude
Stillness
Wordless
Peacefulness
Tranquility
Feeling the tenderness of His Love upon my heart
Words of His Word soak in,
drawing meaning of what He means

His silence teaches me that I am to be silent

Be still and know that I am God. Psalm 46:10

The LORD’s silence is not of this world.
The world demands noise, talk, loudness, busy-ness,
too much going IN
with nothing of substance able to go OUT
too much world going IN
not enough of Him going IN
and nothing of Him going OUT

a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; … Ecclesiastes 3:7b

Time, moments with Him in silence …
necessary … in relationship.
Go with Him to pray
Be with Him to learn
Look at Him to reflect
Quietly, still, in silence
and I slow down whether the world around me does or not.

But the Lord is in his holy temple; let all the earth keep silence before Him.  Habakkuk 2:20

Father God, Your beauty surrounds me in the stillness, in the white.  The gentle touch, as of an angel’s wing, glides across my face, reminding me that You are here.  Father, I sense Your love in the silence, Your peace in the stillness.  How I love the breath of air in the silent, in this cold air.  It gives me hope, calm.  My breath is Your breath for You first breathed in me to give me life.  You first loved me to teach me love.  You are my first Love.  In this quiet, I sense You and know that You are near.  I draw near to You for Your Presence is so real, so lovely this day.  Your touch tenderly caresses my face, yet is silent.  Oh, how I love You, my LORD.  In the Name of Jesus, I pray.  Amen.

Father God

To ponder…

Does God feel like a loving Father to you?  Does He feel like the kind of Father that you could crawl up in His lap and snuggle with or swing in a swing with?

family-440607_640

He is.  I know because I snuggle.  I climb into His lap.  I swing with Him.  I know that I am held firmly and securely no matter where I am with Him.  He is my Protector and the Love of my eternal life.  I must trust Him in order to sit in the vulnerable position as the child above.  I am learning to trust more and more.

For I, the LORD your God, hold your right hand; it is I who say to you, “Fear not, I am the One Who helps you.”  Isaiah 41:13

The LORD is my strength and my shield; My heart trusts in Him, and I am helped; Therefore my heart exults, And with my song I shall thank Him.   Psalm 29:7

“Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.”  Luke 18:17

Abba Father, You are the best.  You love me the way I am.  You strengthen me to do what You have called me to do and to be.  You hold me close that I know You are with me.  You teach me trust by being Who You are…my Father, my Protector, my Strength.  You are my All, Abba.  I want to learn and be the clay in Your hands.  I am sorry when I become afraid and lose my ability to trust You.  I am learning.  I thank You for Your patience with me and for being my Teacher.  I love You, Abba Father.  I pray in the Name of Jesus. Amen.

Alone With Jesus

Some times, many times, days just don’t go the way I would have hoped.

I had a tooth with a crown just break off recently.  I needed a new crown and some build up work done to make it right again.  That is not a cheap investment either, but important.  The dentist did not get all the decay so now must redo the whole process again.

I am praying for one who has considered suicide recently.  I just had a two-part series posted on my personal experience with suicide of a friend.  I am saddened for this woman, for her family.

I recently found myself wishing that things were going a bit differently than they were.  I was placing blame all over the place until God reminded me that satan is everywhere desiring to devour me.  I uttered these four words: “Satan, get thou behind me!”

But He turned and said to Peter, “Get behind Me, Satan! You are an offense to Me, for you are not mindful of the things of God, but the things of men.”  Matthew 16:23

Some days, the road just seems filled with bumps, holes, blockades.  When life feels hard, rather than falling into one of those potholes, I need to be looking for that quiet place to be with Jesus.

But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret.  And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.  Matthew 6:6

Jesus sought to be alone at times.  He knew He would meet His Father.  He could lift His heart’s desires, hopes, and even those things that were so heavy upon Him to His Father.

And early in the morning, while it was still dark, He arose and went out and departed to a lonely place, and was praying there Mark 1:35

David knew this too.

I sought the LORD, and He answered me and delivered me from all my fears.
  Psalm 34:4

I want to meet the LORD wherever I am and in all circumstances.  I cannot do that while deep in worldly thoughts.  I need to step aside, away from the world, removing myself from the negativity, the fears, the heaviness, the busyness.

By this we shall know that we are of the truth and reassure our heart before Him; for whenever our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and He knows everything. Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence before God; and whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do what pleases Him.  And this is His commandment, that we believe in the name of His Son Jesus Christ and love one another, just as He has commanded us. Whoever keeps His commandments abides in God, and God in him. And by this we know that He abides in us, by the Spirit Whom He has given us.  1 John 3:19-24

Father, You are my God and Creator of my soul, my mind, my heart, and my body.  You know all that goes on in and through me, Father.  Thank You for reminding me Whose I am.  I may live in this world, but I am Yours and want to stay connected to You with every breath.  Thank You for guiding me and lighting the candle along what felt, what feels,  like a dark path.  I am walking with You today.  I want to stay here with You.  I pray in the Morning Star’s Name, Jesus.  Amen.

You will seek Me and find Me, when you seek Me with all your heart.  Jeremiah 29:13

God of the Heavens

NASA’s New Horizons spacecraft was launched January 19, 2006.  On July 14, 2015, it passed Pluto and its moons.  Pluto is 31.94 Astronomical Units (AU) from Earth.  One AU is the average distance between the Sun and Earth, about 93 million miles or 149.6 million kilometers.  “At its most distant, when the Earth and Pluto are on the opposite sides of the sun from one another, Pluto lies 4.67 billion miles (7.5 billion kilometers) from Earth. At their closest, the two are only 2.66 billion miles (4.28 billion km) apart.” These numbers are phenomenal numbers, beyond what my mind can wrap around.  But they are real numbers and what scientists have calculated with their knowledge and understanding.

Pluto_charon_150709_color_finalPluto has five known moons.  Charon is in the photograph with Pluto above.

planets3All of these planets orbit around the sun.  This is the solar system we call “ours.”

How much more has God created beyond Pluto?

eyes-on-plutoMan created a spacecraft that took 9 and a half years to get to its destination, arrived, took photos, sent radio signals back to Earth, and now continues outward into space.

God knows what is out there.  Man is learning some of God’s creation beyond our corner of this world.

How precious to me are your thoughts, O God!
How vast is the sum of them!
Psalm 139:17

Behold, to the LORD your God belong heaven and the heaven of heavens, the earth with all that is in it.  Deuteronomy 10:14

“But will God indeed dwell on the earth? Behold, heaven and the highest heaven cannot contain you; how much less this house that I have built!”  1 Kings 8:27

 Father God, God of the heavens, You created it all and know every star, planet, and all that is out in what we call “outer space.”  You know that there is nothing too great or small for You because it has all been formed by Your very hands.  How amazing You are, Father!  ‘Vast’ seems like too small of a word to describe all that You have made and all Who You are.  Father, thank You for loving us, these tiny creatures compared to what we are able to see through the ingenuity, intellect, and inventiveness that You have given to man.  Yet, I know that there is so very much more.  Thank You, Loving God of the heavens, for being willing to adopt me into Your family, forgiving me for my sinfulness, guiding me through the way that You have chosen for me.  I pray with gratitude and amazement to You through Your Son.  Amen.

Rejoice in the LORD

2717902849_1cb1a552f3_z
Isaiah 35

The wilderness and the dry land shall be glad;

the desert shall rejoice and blossom like the crocus;

it shall blossom abundantly

and rejoice with joy and singing.

The glory of Lebanon shall be given to it,

the majesty of Carmel and Sharon.

They shall see the glory of the Lord,

the majesty of our God.

Strengthen the weak hands,

and make firm the feeble knees.

Say to those who have an anxious heart,

“Be strong; fear not!

Behold, your God

will come with vengeance,

with the recompense of God.

He will come and save you.”

Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened,

and the ears of the deaf unstopped;

then shall the lame man leap like a deer,

and the tongue of the mute sing for joy.

For waters break forth in the wilderness,

and streams in the desert;

the burning sand shall become a pool,

and the thirsty ground springs of water;

in the haunt of jackals, where they lie down,

the grass shall become reeds and rushes.

And a highway shall be there,

and it shall be called the Way of Holiness;

the unclean shall not pass over it.

It shall belong to those who walk on the way;

even if they are fools, they shall not go astray.

No lion shall be there,

nor shall any ravenous beast come up on it;

they shall not be found there,

but the redeemed shall walk there.

And the ransomed of the Lord shall return

and come to Zion with singing;

everlasting joy shall be upon their heads;

they shall obtain gladness and joy,

and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.

The Way of Holiness is surrounded by waters, plants, and animals that reveal the glory of the LORD.  All of creation shouts.  Redemption has come and we, the people, sing with rejoicing.  Healing and forgiveness make way for gladness and joy.  The hard things of this world fade away, leaving sorrow and tears to be no more.

The LORD your God is in your midst,
a Mighty One Who will save;
He will rejoice over you with gladness;
He will quiet you by His love;
He will exult over you with loud singing.  Zephaniah 3:17

Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice,
and let them say among the nations, “The LORD reigns!”  1 Chronicles 16:31

Therefore my heart is glad, and my whole being rejoices;
my flesh also dwells secure.  Psalm 16:9

Father God, I rejoice in Your Holy Name.  I sing to You and worship only You as I continue to learn of Your ways.  Your highway to holiness is the only way I want to be journey upon.  Your Way is the Truth.  May I walk steadfastly along that highway, remaining close to You, precious LORD.  As I ponder these and other verses about rejoicing, my heart lightens.  The heaviness of this world, all the heartaches and soul aches I see and hear about me seem to fade into the background as You stand strong and faithful beside me.  You come before me and are my way.  I follow You.  May I be in Your will in this world, and may I be strong in You that my heart would not grow faint.

Have you not known? Have you not heard?
The LORD is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He does not faint or grow weary;
his understanding is unsearchable.

He gives power to the faint,
and to him who has no might he increases strength.

Even youths shall faint and be weary,
and young men shall fall exhausted;

but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength;
they shall mount up with wings like eagles;
they shall run and not be weary;
they shall walk and not faint.  Isaiah 40:28-31

May I wait upon You and sing praises of joy to You, only to You.   In the Strong Name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.

“The Bible is a vein of pure gold, unalloyed by quartz, or any earthly substance.  This is a star without a speck; a sun without a blot; a light without darkness; a moon without its paleness; a glory without a dimness.  O Bible! it cannot be said of any other book, that it is perfect and pure; but of thee we can declare all wisdom is gathered up in thee, without a particle of folly.  This is the judge that ends the strife, where wit and reason fail.  This is the book untainted by any error; but is pure, unalloyed, perfect truth.”  Charles H. Spurgeon from “Daily Help”

God speaks to us, and to those who came before us, by His Word.

All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.   2 Timothy 3:16-17

And He who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” Also He said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”  Revelation 21:5

He sent His Son to show us the Way, the Truth, and the Light.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  He was in the beginning with God.  All things were made through Him, and without Him was not any thing made that was made.  In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.  The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.  John 1:1-5

Jesus said to him, “I am the Way, and the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through me.  John 14:6

Father, You gave us Your gift, Your Only Son.  You sent Him here to take my sins upon Himself, to wash me clean.  He is the Word and the Word is life, my life.  I thank You.  I am gratefully Yours.   In the Name of Your Son, Immanuel, God with us, I pray.  Amen.

Walk by the Spirit

galatians5_16

But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.  Galatians 5:16

Oh, that I walk in obedience to the LORD in ALL my steps.  But I am human and that is just not possible UNLESS I let this SELF go, placing her at the foot of the Cross and trust, TRUST, in the Holy Spirit for each and every step.  God gave me free will and I choose to pick this self up and try to do things in my own power.

I want to…

  • …walk humbly
  • …stay close
  • …live and show the fruit of the Spirit to this world in which I live in
  • …accept my inability to do these things as I am
  • …that I must be moldable and tender

 And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.  Galatians 5:24

from Daily Help by Charles H. Spurgeon:

As a man does not make himself spiritually alive, so neither can he keep himself so.  He can feed on spiritual food, and so preserve his spiritual strength; he can walk in the commandments of the Lord, and so enjoy the rest and peace, but still the inner life is dependent upon the Spirit as much for its after existence as for its first begetting.  No man himself, even when converted, hath any power, except as that power is daily, constantly, and perpetually infused into him by the Spirit.

The motive-power of action to a believing man lies hard by the realization that God, for Christ’s sake, hath forgiven his iniquities.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do.  But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.  Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.  But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.  And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.  If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit.  Galatians 5:17-25
matthew18_3
And calling to Him a child, He put him in the midst of them and said, “Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.  Matthew 18:2-3
Abba Father, may this world dim in my mind and Your Light draw me nearer to You with each day, in each moment.  May I be the clay that You desire of me that You can mold me into the Linda that You created me to be.  May I be Yours in all ways.  I want to be a light in this world, drawing others to You who live in the darkness of this world.  I want to walk in humility as Your Spirit guides my steps.  Thank You, LORD, for Your love of this imperfect one.  …for I love You.  In the Name of Jesus, I pray.  Amen.
Heaven’s Dew with Charles Spurgeon
IMG_1350I have written about “dew” a few times recently.  Yesterday, I walked out on my back porch to where two Christmas poinsettias are sitting on a plant bench.  Our weather has been damp, foggy, with dew covering everything for much of each day.  This is not like South Texas very often.  I captured the beautiful dew on this bright red plant in some photos and just had to visit “dew” again.
Mr. Spurgeon writes a profound piece (as usual) which is most of my post:
 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The Thirteenth of September.

From Charles Haddon Spurgeon’s “Faith’s Check Book”

257-The Dew of Heaven

“His heavens shall drop down dew.” (Deuteronomy 33:28)

What the dew in the East is to the world of nature, that is the influence of the Spirit in the realm of grace.  How greatly do I need it!  Without the Spirit of God I am a dry and withered thing.  I droop, I fade, I die.  How sweetly does this dew refresh me!  When once favored with it I feel happy, lively, vigorous, elevated.  I want nothing more.  The Holy Spirit brings me life and all that life requires.  All else without the dew of the Spirit is less than nothing to me: I hear, I read, I pray, I sing, I go to the table of Communion, and I find no blessing there until the Holy Ghost visits me.  But when He bedews me, every means of grace is sweet and profitable.

What a promise is this for me! “His heavens shall drop down dew.”  I shall be visited with grace.  I shall not be left to my natural drought, or to the world’s burning heat, or to the sirocco of satanic temptation. Oh, that l may at this very hour feel the gentle, silent, saturating dew of the Lord!  Why should I not!  He who has made me to live as the grass lives in the meadow will treat me as He treats the grass; He will refresh me from above.  Grass cannot call for dew as I do.  Surely, the Lord who visits the unpraying plant will answer to His pleading child.

IMG_1349

Mr. Spurgeon, you have blessed me this day.

Father God, more than Mr. Spurgeon’s words and word-pictures, Your beautiful dew on these bright red leaves has given me such a thrill, a delight.  They are so lovely.  The edge of the leaf furthest to the right in this photo has dew drops dangling from the its sides for it is at the perfect angle for that to happen.  …Your creation wearing your creation…  How beautiful You are, my LORD.  How beautiful You are!  The refreshment by Your Holy Spirit falls none too often.  The dew covers these leaves as You cover me.  You envelop me with Your Love touching my very soul, bringing life-giving living waters to this dry soul.  You wrap me in the moist air of holiness and teach me about holiness.  You soak me with tenderness and kindness.  I deserve none yet You give so willingly.  I praise You, Father.  I thank You for adopting me and then drenching me with Your dew.  You are Refreshment.  You are the very Dew that my body, soul and mind need.  I want to absorb You, LORD, Your Love, Your gentleness, Your beauty … right on in.  In the Name of Your Wonderful Son, I pray.  Amen.

Clouds … Fog

Fog

Walking in fog…like walking in mist, translucent and close, yet not confining except for a visual confinement of sorts.  A cloud near to or on the ground.

cloud is defined as “a visible mass of liquid droplets or frozen crystals made of water or various chemicals suspended in the atmosphere above the surface of a planetary body.”   Fog is defined as “a collection of liquid water droplets or ice crystals suspended in the air at or near the Earth’s surface. Fog can be considered a type of low-lying cloud, and is heavily influenced by nearby bodies of water, topography, wind conditions, and even human activities.”

“A low-lying cloud”…

Moses and the people of Israel knew a cloud that came down, a cloud that led them in the wilderness.  Moses alone knew that from the cloud God spoke to him.

And the LORD went before them by day in a pillar of cloud to lead them along the way, and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, that they might travel by day and by night.  Exodus 13:21

And the LORD said to Moses, “Behold, I am coming to you in a thick cloud, that the people may hear when I speak with you, and may also believe you forever.” ….  Exodus 19:9

The glory of the LORD dwelt on Mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it six days. And on the seventh day He called to Moses out of the midst of the cloud.  Exodus 24:16

When Moses entered the tent, the pillar of cloud would descend and stand at the entrance of the tent, and the LORD would speak with Moses.  Exodus 33:9

And when all the people saw the pillar of cloud standing at the entrance of the tent, all the people would rise up and worship, each at his tent door. Exodus 33:10

God spoke to Peter, James and John when they were on the mountain with Jesus.

And a cloud overshadowed them, and a voice came out of the cloud, “This is My beloved Son; listen to Him.”  Mark 9:7

Jesus went to Heaven by a cloud and, one day, He will return for us on a cloud.

And when He had said these things, as they were looking on, He was lifted up, and a cloud took Him out of their sight.  And while they were gazing into heaven as He went, behold, two men stood by them in white robes, and said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into heaven?  This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw Him go into heaven.”  Acts 1:9-11

And then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.  Luke 21:27

Behold, He is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see Him, even those who pierced Him, and all tribes of the earth will wail on account of Him. Even so. Amen.  Revelation 1:7

These are but a few of the many verses in the Bible with the word “cloud.”  But these particular verses also tell us of God.  God came to Moses in a cloud.  He spoke to Moses.  He spoke to Peter, James and John when they were on the mountain with Jesus.  God led the Israelites through the wilderness by “the pillar of cloud.”  They walked in obedience to God for they knew God was in this cloud.

I can look upon fog and clouds through new eyes as I place these and many other verses together in my heart’s eye.  God reveals Himself in so many ways to those who listen and watch for Him.  I sense His nearness with God when enshrouded by the low-lying cloud, the fog.  A cloud above me reminds me of His Presence.

Father, desiring to know You is my heart’s desire.  I pray that as I stroll through a woods on a foggy day or look up into the sky to see the beautiful white puffs against a bright blue background, that I shall see You in my heart, feel You wrapped around me holding me closely.  May I listen and know the words You speak to me whether it be through Your Word, actual words spoken, or through others who share Your Truth with me.  I pray that I am available and obedient to Your call.  May I know the “pillar of cloud” when You go before me leading me on Your chosen path.   You are my God and I desire to know You…to know You in the ways that You come to me, to know Your character, to know Your Truth, Your Holiness.  Whether by a cloud, a rainbow, Your voice, I want to know You.  Guide me in every step, LORD.  Thank You. I pray in the Name of Your Blessed Son.  Amen.
